Dachshunds

DachshundsDachshunds come in two sizes and three coat types (smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired). All Dachshunds shed in varying amounts, but the longhaired coat type requires the most grooming. They are hunters and will follow the scent of a rabbit or squirrel wherever it takes them, even if that means out of your sight or across a road. This is why they should always be fenced in or on a leash when outside. Dachshunds seem to be unaware of their small size and aren't usually afraid of bigger dogs.

A Dachshund will be happy to cuddle up on the couch, but they also love to play. Whether you choose to play together inside or out, it's important that Dachshunds get daily exercise. They don't require as much exercise as bigger dogs, but some play time every day is important to their health.

Dachshunds can make wonderful family dogs. They are happy, loving animals, and they enjoy playing and having a good time. Their small size can make them a good playmate for children, but be careful that they aren't treated like a stuffed toy. They are sturdy, little dogs, but their small size makes them more susceptible to injury.

If you're looking for a happy, faithful companion, a Dachshund can be all that and more. Their size allows them to be at home just about anywhere, and they will happily join a family and be protective of the ones they love. If you make sure to provide him with plenty of exercise and lots of fun, a Dachshund can make a great pet for many years to come.
