I have an 8mth Westie that also loves destructive chewing among playing with his chew toys. Walk the dog more frequently. It tires my dog out. I bought plain rawhide & 1 piece lasts a long time.
He did destroy my sandal while I fell aleep on then couch recently. Probably annoyed that I wasn't playingw/ him while he had energy late at night.
I tried using biter spray called "Keep Off". Not much of a deterent. I think he actual likes it. He chewed the protective padding on my husband's guitar stand.
Good luck! I'm hoping my dog will out grow this stage since he's still a pup & very sweet.

I have a 1 1/2 yr old destructive chewer. I have no idea what to do. I have about 20 different toys from nylabone to jolly balls to frisbees and ropes. During the day when my dog is home alone (i keep him confined to the kitchen because if I don't he'd chew the couch apart-haven't tried it but i know he would)- and destroy all my son's toys among other things. Anyway, he stays in the kitchen, blocked off (by doors) from the rest of the apartment. He has all his toys and yet I still have to keep everything pushed back on the counter, NOTHING on the table, and coats put up into another room because I can't keep them up on the coat rack as he proved yesterday he will pull them down and shred them (he got my good jacket that I wear for dress and shredded it). He is about 24 inches high-golden retriever/corgi mix. He is a very aggressive chewer and I do not know what to do! He plays with his toys and only his toys (doesn't touch anything else) while we are at home, but if I leave him in the kitchen...if something is within reach where he can stand up on hind legs and get it...he'll shred it; even though he has bones, toys and ropes all over the place. And yes, he also has a kong that I fill with food/treats that he does get out. I do have a nylabone, and he chews it but looses interest in it quickly and goes to his bones or jolly ball. Any suggestions??? HELP!!!!!! :( I love my dog but the chewing is one thing I cannot stand.
