Top 5 Summer Activities for You and Your Dog

Summer is quickly approaching—are you in need of some new and exciting activities to create lifelong memories with your best friend? While it’s easy to let Spike be a couch potato all summer, that’s not fun or healthy for either one of you! Here are some activities to keep you both happy through the dog days of summer.

1) Take him to the doggy beach or even a lake!

If your dog is a water lover, then this is the perfect adventure on which to embark. You’ll get some fresh air, enjoy a nice day on the water, and your pup will frolic around and adore every moment of play and relaxation—a good time for all!

2) Take him out to the ball game!

Many stadiums offer special pet-friendly dog days at their parks. Nylabone is co-sponsoring a Dog Day at the Park on July 19th in Oakland, so you and your pup can watch the Oakland A’s rival the New York Yankees! You both can enjoy a cool summer night sharing popcorn or a healthy snack while watching your favorite team. Check out this list of MLB “dog day” events in your area.

3) Go for walks!

You and your dog will both sleep better after a nice long walk. Make it a habit to take him out for a stroll every night after dinner (weather permitting), and enjoy the fresh air and quality time with your furry friend.

4) Stay in and play

Sometimes staying in with your dog is just what the doctor ordered. On a scorching summer day (or even on a rainy one), have a nice long play session with your dog and his favorite toys, and then enjoy some snuggle time and a movie.

5) Run through the sprinkler together!

If your dog has a lot of energy, the sun will only make him more playful. Dig out the old sprinkler, grab his favorite Nylabone toy, and run around and splash and play with your pooch. He’ll sleep well after that!

No matter what you decide to do with your dog this summer, you are sure to make some wonderful memories. Whether you simply enjoy a walk and a shared dog-friendly snack or take a road trip to explore a new place, you and your dog will become closer than ever. Summer is a magical time to share with a dog, so don’t let it pass you by!
