    Even though dogs probably can’t tell Valentine’s Day apart from any other day, we like to include them in the festivities. After all, what dog doesn’t love the extra attention and gifts? Here are some suggestions for showing your dog some love this Valentine’s Day.

    Make Some Homemade Treats

    Even though dogs can’t have chocolate, they can have carob chips, which are a safe alternative. Carob chips look exactly like chocolate, but have a nuttier taste. Jesse the Jack Russell shows you how to make festive Valentine’s Day treats for your dog in his newest video!


    Do Something Fun

    Does your dog love throwing the Frisbee around or running around the dog park? Or does your pooch just love to snuggle up in bed with you? Take an hour out of your day and let your dog do what he or she loves to do. If your dog has a doggy friend and they love playing together, arrange a “play date” for the two of them. Get creative, and do something special and fun!

    Take Them Shopping

    Is your dog still chewing on the same toy he or she had last February? Is your furry friend’s sweater meant for a dog half their size? You don’t have to spoil your dog rotten or spend a lot of money. Even if you buy a small gift, your pup will feel like a million bucks! Here are a few Valentine’s Day gift suggestions for your smoochable pooch.

  • Dog Treat Recipe – Tail Twists

    Your dog will beg for one of these Tail Twists.

    Cheesy twists are perfect for a poochie party! The Flaxseed adds a crunchy, nutty flavor and is rich in essential fatty acids and fiber, helping to maintain a healthy immune system.

    You Will Need:

    10 oz (300 g) wheat and gluten free flour
    2 oz (50 g) low fat cheddar cheese
    1 oz (25 g) low fat parmesan cheese, grated
    1 tablespoon chopped thyme
    2 tablespoons milled flaxseed
    4 fl oz (125 ml) olive oil
    3½ fl oz (105 ml) cold water

    • Mix the flour, cheese, thyme and flaxseed in a large bowl. Add the oil and combine. Add the water a little at a time until the mixture forms a firm dough.
    • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface and divide into 1½ inch (3.5 cm) balls. Roll out each ball into a 6 inch (15 cm) sausage. Pat lightly with the rolling pin to flatten, then hold both ends and twist in opposite directions.
    • Place the twists on a greased baking sheet, ½ inch (1 cm) apart. Bake in a preheated oven. 325°F (160°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown in color. Remove from the oven and leave the twists to cool on the baking sheet. The twists will keep for 7-10 days in an airtight tin or container.

    Preparation time: 15 minutes
    Cooking time: 30-35 minutes
    Makes 32-34 treats
